The leaves are changing....

But the temperature is not. I am longing for that crisp fall air, the kind that requires you to take your sweaters out of hibernation....hopefully soon.

Until then I will just enjoy these works by British artist Andy Goldsworthy.

I am making a dress for Unica.

So I haven't been posting much. When I am not working I am knee deep in fabric, yarn and other notions. I am working very hard to get it done....though I have a ways to go. I will get there.

Spin your own web

Here are some cool picture of a human web made of 700 rolls of packing tape. Watch the video too! Pretty cool - but nothing compares the the real deal. Spiders rule!

Love letters.

I first met the man-friend almost a year ago. We originally decided to just be pen-pals since he lived in Pennsylvania and I lived in Wisconsin. You cannot even imagine how excited I was to open the mail box to receive his letters. I would savor each and every word.

I panicked the other night because I couldn't find the letters, I thought I lost the beginning of our love story. I found them (THANK GOD) and now they reside in a frame in my studio - a beautiful reminder of our beginning.

Here are some beautiful love notes and letters:

When can I move in?

Check out the Davis residence by architecture firm Miller Hull. GORGEOUS! What makes this place even better is the firm's philosophy in building socially responsible and humane public architecture. And they have have been building green since the 80's! Love that.

Read more about their design philosophy and see more of their projects at their website: http://www.millerhull.com/html/home.htm (that's where I found these pics!)

P.S.
A huge CONGRATS! to my dear friend Lish.....she and her husband just bought their first house! YAY!!!! First came love, then the house - next a PUPPY! (then a baby!)

Take a look, it's in a book!

I love children's books - particularly the illustrations. The CPR class I took the other day was held in an elementary school. I was surrounded with kids books and this really cool kid-friendly wallpaper. It got me thinking about my favorite children's book illustrations. What are some of yours?

Cool wallpaper from the CPR class - kids get to draw their own art.

Way better than the movie (sorry Spike Jonze), Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are

We all love Curious George, by Margaret and H.A. Rey

Bread and Jam for Frances, illustration by Lillian Hoban

My brother's favorite, The Sailor Dog, illustrations by Garth Williams

Who doesn't know Eric Carle?

Babar enjoying his bath, illustrated by Jean de Brunhoff

Today I participated in mass production.

The past couple of days I have spent a few hours at my friend's job helping them out in their shipping department. Basically I was making box after box (after box, after box). Mindless work, pretty darn boring - it reminded me of one of my college summer jobs working in a factory making welders. That was boring too. Oh the joys of mass production!

Seriously though what are the consequences of mass production? Put Edward Burtynsky's documentary, Manufactured Landscapes, on your netflix queue (if you haven't seen it) and start thinking about those consequences.

Here are some photos from the film:

90210

In honor of today's date, let's reminisce, shall we?

I wasn't even allowed to watch 90210 until it wasn't cool anymore. But I never missed an episode of Full House - duh! And in the 3rd grade I pretended to be really into NKOTB, mostly because the 4th and 5th graders were. At least I had a Caboodle (remember those?!?!?)....

I didn't even know who Nirvana was - but I remember seeing their album and wondering why a naked baby was swimming after a dollar. Personally, I was listening to Casy Kasem's "long distance dedications" and hoping Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey's duet, One Sweet Day would be number one. I guess my music taste evolved a little over time, No Doubt's Don't Speak was a favorite - I knew every word.

Oh the 90's......where did you go?
